Farewell Davenport Boulevard

So, we bought a house. My new commute consists of winding country roads, chickens in the road and lots of traffic. But I love it.

Moving into our new house was a little bittersweet for me though. I'm one of those sentimental people who hates change. So even though I was really tired of tiny apartment living, I was sad to leave our first home together. For two years, this was the place where we learned a lot about each other and grew together.

This is where we had our routines and rituals. Where we laughed a lot and disagreed a little. Had coffee table picnics at dinner every night because we didn't have a kitchen table. Had friends over to play board games and family dinners on Sundays. Where we woke up early one day to a living room flood. We had our first Christmases and Tim had shingles.

We had lazy Saturday mornings with lots of coffee. I did a million loads of laundry and cooked dinners with Tim. And the living room was always a mess because that's where I did all of my projects.

I have the best memories from our first home but I know the memories we make in our new home will be even better. Here's to the next chapter!

My cousin Brittany is an amazing photographer, she captured our home perfectly. Be sure to follow her on Instagram!

I can't wait to show you our new home and share the adventures of home ownership! I'm sure there are alot of DIY and decorating posts ahead.

Poppyseed Chicken Recipe

Making Poppyseed Chicken is not like riding a bike. I found this out this past weekend when I went to whip some up and couldn't remember how to make it. I went to the internets to find the recipe and none of the recipes I found were exactly what I wanted so I got started without one. I went with my gut and it turned out great. So I thought I'd share my recipe with you all (and it's also for my benefit for next time I want to make it and can't remember :) )

Here's what you'll need:

1.5 lbs of shredded, cooked chicken

2 cans of cream of chicken

1.5 cups of sour cream

2 tablespoons of poppyseeds

1.5 sleeves of Ritz crackers (crushed)

1/4 cup of melted butter

Preheat oven to 350

Once your chicken is cooked and shredded, mix it with the cream of chicken, sour cream and poppyseeds.

Pour the mixture into a 9x13 dish

In a separate bowl, mix together the melted butter and crackers. Then sprinkle evenly on top of the chicken mixture. This will be the most scrumptious topping you'll ever eat. Make sure you don't eat any of this before you sprinkle it onto the chicken because you won't be able to stop and then your poppyseed chicken will be without a topping and you'll be wrought with guilt for eating crackers soaked in butter.

Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the mixture is bubbling.

Serve it on top of brown rice and your husband will think you've been slaving away in the kitchen for hours.

Pro tip: If you have a Kitchenaid mixer, you can shred your cooked chicken using the dough hook. Just throw it in the mixing bowl and turn it on low speed. Then you can go back to more fun activities like crossword puzzles or cleaning out the refrigerator. Anything is better than shredding chicken with two forks.

Enjoy!

DIY Valentines (Free Printables!)

Here is a sneak preview of what you can expect from the new blog we've been telling you about! Stay tuned for our launch date so you can stay in the know and see more posts like this!

Valentine's Day is near! What's not to love about a holiday that's centered around love!?

Here are a few reasons why Valentine's Day is the best:

1. It's the only time of year you can buy almost anything covered in cute red and pink hearts. Want a heart dish towel? You got it! Heart-shaped bowls? Yep! A giant, heart-shaped box filled with an assortment of chocolate?! Uh-huh! Target is the best this time of year.

2. Conversation hearts. Because communicating with candy is more fun than a text message!

3. Handmade Valentines!! Because how often do you have a good excuse to break out the glitter and sequins to make your main squeeze a card? Sure, they may not appreciate the glitter as much as we do but they definitely appreciate not spending $4.50 on a Hallmark card.

Speaking of handmade Valentines, we got together and made some cute little cards for our men. Sure we saved ourselves a trip to the greeting card aisle but the real fun was making them! But honestly, anytime we get together it's a party.

Tiny Apartment Living - 7 Helpful Storage Tips

Tim and I live in a really tiny, one bedroom apartment and most days it feels like we're busting at the seams in every area of storage. We've had to get creative since we've run out of places to put things and when something doesn't have a place, it drives me crazy. It's amazing what a cute basket can do! So today, I am sharing seven cute, yet functional, ways we keep organized at home! 1. Throw Blanket Ladder.

Blanket Ladder

This idea I stole from my cousin Brittany. One day I went to her house and she had this cute old ladder with her blankets on it and I thought it was genius. We always have blankets around the living room and at one point they were folded up in a pile next to the couch. Now they're a part of the decor! Functional and decorative! We found this ladder used on a facebook for sale page in our town.

2. Coffee Table with Hidden Storage.

coffee Table

This coffee table was given to us by Tim's cousins and it works as a bookshelf, dinner table, media storage, craft table, nerf gun holder, desk and so much more. The top slides open to uncover a huge storage bin, and each side has a shelf for books. It's been a lifesaver. I don't know where we would put the many things that we store in here if we didn't have it.

3. Towel Rack Hanging Baskets.

Hanging Baskets

Okay so we have this towel rack above our commode and I don't know about you, but I don't want to hang my towel above the toilet and we don't have any decorative towels to hang, so when I saw this idea on pinterest I started looking for baskets immediately. All i did was weave some old fabric strips through the two corners on these baskets we found at Target and tied them tightly to the towel rack. It's a great way to store things like hairspray and lotions and we get so many compliments on these from guests.

4. Antler Jewelry Rack.

So I'm obviously all about decorative items that double as storage and this is my favorite thing. My daddy made this for me. Something tells me he didn't envision that I'd be hanging up my necklaces on these antlers when he got this deer on his hunt. Maybe someday we can have him guest post a DIY antler shelf tutorial!

5. Chalkboard Baskets/Bins.

sink basketThis one I keep next to the sink since I lack a drawer for my dishcloths.

coffee bin

My coffeepot and grinder are right next to the refrigerator so I keep this bin on top of the fridge. It's where I keep my coffee beans and filters.

We have several different bins and baskets like these around the house. I keep my calligraphy supplies and my crochet projects in other chalkboard bins. And I store our oils and vinegars in the pantry in another chalkboard basket. These are great because they look cute and they allow me to keep things out in the open, since I don't have extra cabinet or drawer space. I found these at the craft store and we used the wooden bins at the wedding, so I love that I get to use them again around the house.

6. Media Cabinet with Shutter Doors.

Media Cabinet

This is where we store our printer, modem, movies and all things electronic. We found this at Target and have been so happy with it.

7. Pantry Door Hanging Shelves.

Pantry Door Hanger

This thing has absolutely saved us. Our pantry is completely full and being able to put things on these shelves means we don't have things falling down on us every time we open the door. We can't store really heavy things on here but it works perfectly for our beans, nuts, foil, teas etc.

Without these seven solutions, tiny apartment living would be a little tougher for us. Hopefully these help you too!

XOXO,

Di

I hate birthdays. But this helps.

The month of June is almost here and it's my absolute favorite month of the year. Mainly because that means it's officially summer but it's also my birthday month! I hate getting older (and getting more wrinkles) but one thing that helps is getting free stuff from stores and restaurants that I love. This year, I remembered to make sure I'm getting as many birthday freebies as possible. Tim and I live for a good coupon and a lot of restaurants will give you a free meal to use during the month of your birthday! All you have to do is sign up for their email list. Since it's hard to remember to do this before our birthdays, I compiled all of my favorites! Free Stuff

Anthropologie - They give you a birthday discount! I think it's 15% coupon and a couple of years ago I got a cute little birthday candle necklace in the mail with my coupon!

Auntie Anne's - Last time it was a buy one get one free deal! (Date night! The Gilleans love pretzels.)

Aveda - They give awesome birthday gifts. A couple of years ago I got to make my own lotion scent and it wasn't a tiny little bottle. It was full size! Not sure what the gift is this year but I bet it's good. To sign up, look in the upper right corner and you'll see "email sign-up", hover over that and a box will pop up where you'll enter your info.

Cold Stone Creamery - They give you a buy one get one free deal.

Einstein Bagels - This is one of my FAVORITE places. This is the first year I've signed up for theirs so I'm not sure what the gift is but they promise a birthday offer!

Firehouse Subs - They give you a free sub on your birthday! And I don't think you even have to sign up for anything, just bring your I.D. to the restaurant on your b-day!

Genghis Grill - They give you a free birthday bowl. And if I remember correctly, you can use it any day of your birthday month.

Qdoba - A free gift on your birthday!

Sephora - Sign up for their beauty insider club and get a gift on your birthday! A couple of years ago it was an awesome Sugar lip balm set.

Starbucks - Register a gift card and get a free drink on your birthday!

Victoria's Secret - I think they give you a $10 coupon to use sometime during your birthday month! Plus they're always sending good coupons throughout the year.

Zoe's Kitchen - I love love love Zoe's Kitchen. I'm not sure what the birthday deal is but any excuse to eat dinner here is fine by me.

Do you know of any awesome birthday deals? If so, comment and let all the Tennessee Pretties know!

XOXO,

Di
